Editorial: Nominate I2P for DuckDuckGo's FOSS project donation

DuckDuckGo, a privacy-aware search alternative to Google, is hosting a yearly contest to choose a software project for donations.

Using the DuckDuckGo forums, ideas for the winning project were solicited from DDG users.

I2P is a strong contender, with many of the forum posts asking for its support.

While countless open source projects exist, I2P is well-developed, well-supported, and innovative in its design and function. With Tor currently being the only major, well-recognized darknet-type service, alternatives with better technology and more diverse uses need to be developed and promoted to the public at large.

Unlike Tor, I2P contains support for peer-to-peer technology, such as eDonkey/eMule, BitTorrent, and Gnutella, as well as innovative decentralized services such as serverless email, distributed file storage, and distributed hash tables.

Free communication and decentralized technology are core components of the philosophy of Hactive.net, and as such, we would like to encourage others to vote for I2P as the award recipient.
